Original Story in Venezuela
Although the origin story of the cachito is somewhat unknown, it is believed that it was made for the first time by a Portuguese immigrant at the beginning of the 20th century. There were many waves of immigrants from Europe with Portuguese, Spanish and Italian people with the biggest numbers. The Portuguese were known for their passion for bakeries and mixing their own flavors with local ones, such as the sweetness of panela. Papelon is a form of brown sugar (also known as moscabada) and it is made by drying sugar cane and then purifying it. Cajitos are rolls with a touch of sweetness that are made with wheat dough, stuffed with sweet ham (usually from leg of ham), and in the newest variations they are filled with cheese, nutella, guava with cream cheese or a mix of these ingredients.
